Grandview man killed in wreck



A wreck Tuesday on Farm-to-Market Road 916 claimed the life of a Grandview man and resulted in the hospitalization of a second driver, a Texas Department of Public Safety spokesman said.

Joe Wilson, 42, was pronounced dead at the scene of the wreck, which occurred about 11:15 a.m. about 4.5 miles west of Grandview.

Wilson, traveling eastbound on FM 916 driving a Chevrolet Blazer, crossed the line and struck a Mack tractor-trailer traveling westbound on FM 916, according to DPS reports.

The driver of the Mack truck, Jimmy Lee Watson, 52, of Whitney was transported to Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth. Watson was treated and released, a hospital spokeswoman said Wednesday.

United Way Kickoff scheduled for Aug. 27



The annual United Way of Johnson County kickoff luncheon is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Aug. 27 at the Cleburne Civic Center.

Former Dallas Cowboy Charlie Waters will speak. A live auction will be held with autographs and tickets from the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers and more.

Fall adult education class planned



Student orientation for the fall semester of Cleburne ISD Adult Education, including free classes in GED Preparation and English as a Second Language, will be held Sept. 8-9 on the J.N. Long campus, 425 N. Granbury.

Orientation for GED Preparation will take place from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Students registering for the program should bring a photo I.D. and their Social Security card. Applicants under age 18 are asked to call 817-202-1108 before reporting to orientation as additional information will be required from them.

Registration for English as a Second Language classes will take place at 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. Sept. 8. Classes taught in Cleburne will offer two levels of ESL instruction. No documentation is required to enroll in ESL.

Morning and evening classes in both the GED and ESL programs will be provided at the CISD Adult Education Center, located on the J.N. Long campus.

Classes will also be offered in Alvarado, Burleson, Joshua, Granbury and Venus. For information, call 817-202-1108.
