Photo walk set for Saturday



Cleburne shutterbugs are invited to participate in a worldwide photo walk from 7-11 a.m. Saturday.

Cleburne Camera Club President Peggy Cathey will lead the walk, which begins at Market Square at 300 S. Main and ends at Lemon Sisters Café and Bakery at 205 S. Main.

The path will wind through and near downtown and include well-known sites such as the county courthouse, the Layland Museum, the Liberty Hotel and Plaza Theatre. Many of the buildings will be open so photographers can capture interior shots.

Terry’s Texas Rangers will present a living history demonstration, and Billy Cate will appear in traditional cowboy attire, both in Wright Plaza.

Organizers would like to take a group shot before the walk begins, so photographers should try to arrive before 7 a.m.

The walk is free, but participants must sign up at worldwidephotowalk.com/cleburne-tx-usa and provide their own camera equipment. More information is available at that site, or participants may e-mail Cathey at natvtxn1@windstream.net.

JISD trustees to tour new stadium



Joshua school trustees will take a grand tour of the new Owl football stadium during a special called meeting Wednesday beginning at 4:30 p.m.

After the tour, the board will return to the administration building for a workshop to discuss construction, the 2009-10 school budget, board goals, bids for the middle school track, the student handbook for 2009-10 and the extracurricular handbook for 2009-10.

Venus grad completes Navy basic



Navy Seaman Recruit Morgan G. Dyer, a 2008 graduate of Venus High School in Venus recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

During the eight-week program, Dyer completed a variety of training which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety.

An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness.

The capstone event of boot camp is “Battle Stations.” This exercise gives recruits the skills and confidence they need to succeed in the fleet. “Battle Stations” is designed to galvanize the basic warrior attributes of sacrifice, dedication, teamwork and endurance in each recruit through the practical application of basic Navy skills and the core values of honor, courage and commitment. Its distinctly ‘’Navy’’ flavor was designed to take into account what it means to be a sailor.
