Spring Blowout offers family fun

In the first of what city leaders hope will become an annual event, Godley will hold a Spring Blowout Saturday consisting of several events and attractions. All events will take place at Godley Middle School and Godley Intermediate School.

Registration for a 5K run and walk and a one mile fun run begins at 7 a.m. with the runs kicking off at 8:30 a.m. Entry fees — $15 — will benefit the Stand-Up Foundation. The foundation raises funds for therapy patients with spinal cord injuries.

The Godley Chamber of Commerce organized the run along with the McKittrick family whose 7-year-old daughter, Merritt McKittrick was paralyzed from the waist down in an April 28, 2006 accident in which a drunk driver struck the family’s car.

Proceeds from the Spring Blowout, which runs 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., will go towards new playground equipment for the Godley City Park. A crawfish boil, sponsored by the Godley High School band, runs from 4-8 p.m. And a street dance takes place frm 6-10 p.m.

Vendors booths remain available for the event, which is sponsored by the Godley Chamber of Commerce. For information, call the chamber at 817-389-3592.
