Grants continue rolling in for Rio Vista ISD.

Weeks after receiving a grant from the Texas Association of School Boards for an innovative bus safety program, the district received word it had been awarded another grant — this time for loss prevention and safety initiatives.

The $2,700 grant was given to the district “to reduce the potential for property losses and on-the-job injuries and raise safety awareness,” according to a TASB press release.

“The fund is dedicated to partnering with its members to save valuable resources and do everything we can to help educate staff to provide for a healthier work force and create a safer environment,” said Edwin Thompson, director of TASB Loss Prevention Services. “We are quite proud that the fund has been able to award much-needed resources to our members over the years.”

Superintendent Dr. Rock McNulty said Friday he was extremely pleased to receive the grant.

“I think it’s wonderful,” he said. “This will really help us with what we’re trying to implement.”

McNulty did not describe the details of where the grant money will go.

A total of 206 school districts and education entities received the grants, which were broken into two areas — workers’ compensation and the property casualty program.

Workers’ compensation grants focused on fall prevention, personal lifting devices and personal protective equipment. The property casualty program covered security initiatives, driver improvement and vehicle safety.

“Raising awareness and reducing injuries and losses is a win-win situation, and this highly successful program will continue to be an integral part of the fund’s overall focus,” Thompson said. “We applaud participating districts for their commitment to saving valuable local resources and increasing productivity.”
