Board to discuss status, response to TEA report

Decision on indoor practice facility also on agenda

The Cleburne ISD school board will discuss the status of the district’s response to the Texas Education Agency’s preliminary report on the spending of federal funds.

The board, which meets Monday, will review the report and provide an update on the district’s response, though a full response may not be available for the meeting, Board President Stu Madison said.

When the district received the 155-page report in March saying it must repay $367,000, it was given 30 days to respond to the agency on the findings. The agency granted the district another 30-day extension, until May 12, to file a response, but Madison said the agency is allowing the district to present its response in person and is allowing the district to prepare.

Madison said he didn’t know exactly how long the response would be, but he did confirm it is in-depth and covers many subjects.

After the district presents its response, the agency has 30 days to make its final response and release the final report.

Several bids are also on the agenda. The board will consider bids for an indoor practice facility at Cleburne High School, paving for the parking lot at Cleburne High School, replacement of tile at Gerard Elementary and carpet at CHS’s counseling center, vehicle purchases and expanding the Smith Middle School cafeteria.

Also on the agenda is consideration of the 2008-09 teacher pay scale. Madison said that contrary to rumors the district can raise teacher pay, and the board will probably choose to do so.

A presentation from Wheat Middle School’s eighth-graders on their recent trip to NASA is also slated, along with several honors and recognitions.

The meeting is at 7 p.m. in the board room of the district administration building, 505 N. Ridgeway. Before the meeting, the board will convene in closed session at 6 p.m. to discuss scholarship awards for the district’s graduating seniors.
