Crud Cruiser to return Saturday

By Matt Smith/msmith@trcle.com

Cleburne and Johnson County residents can drop off household chemicals and other items for collection Saturday. Cleburne’s annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection, funded through a Bluebonnet RC&D grant, runs from 9-11 a.m. at the Cleburne Civic Center on 1501 W. Henderson St.

Fort Worth’s Crud Cruiser will be on hand to collect unwanted materials.

Those dropping materials off should enter the civic center’s rear parking lot off of Glenwood Drive. They must also bring a current Cleburne utility bill or photo identification showing a Johnson County address.

This year’s event is designed for primarily chemical disposal, said Julie Winchell, Cleburne environmental coordinator.

Acceptable materials to bring include: acids, antifreeze, brake and transmission fluids, batteries, oil filters, degreasers, drain cleaners, fertilizers, unbroken fluorescent light bulbs, paints and stains, thinners, varnish and solvents, herbicides, pesticides, pharmaceuticals, craft, photo and pool chemicals.

The following will not be accepted: ammunition, explosives, tires, asbestos, medical waste, PCBs, propane or butane cylinders, smoke detectors, radioactive materials and electronics.

Cleburne and Bluebonnet plan to hold an electronics recycling event in the fall at a time and place to be determined, Winchell said. For those unable to make Saturday’s event, the Crud Cruiser will also be in Venus later this year at a time to be determined, Winchell said.
