Wheat Middle School eighth-grader Destini Vicencio brought home the school’s first gold medal in UIL academics after her participation in the 2008 Quad-County contest, held at Crowley’s H.F. Stevens Middle School.
Vicencio placed first in dictionary skills, receiving one of several medals awarded to Wheat students. Silver medals, for second place finishes, were presented to Sydney Whitt, art history; Bidi Hernandez, poetry interpretation; and Lacey Stinebaugh, calculator.
The team of Akshay Chhana and Kevin Kartick received a bronze medal for their performance in two-man improvisation as did Destiny Willis, who placed third in calculator.
Also receiving awards for placing among the top six in their events were Hai Hoang, fourth place, number sense; Jade Fails, fourth place, dictionary skills; Sady Worthington, fourth place, spelling; Bidi Hernandez, fifth place, ready writing; Kathryn Hays, fifth place, poetry interpretation; Chelsea Miller, sixth place, art history; Cody Molloy, sixth place, calculator; and Zack Mitchell, sixth place, social studies.
