Drug test, firecracker, kids lead to 3 arrests

Man on probation tried to fake urinalysis with hidden sample

By Matt Smith/msmith@trcle.com

Cleburne police made arrests Wednesday in separate incidents involving a drug test, a firecracker and innocent children walking down a street.

An officer responded to the Johnson County Adult Probation Center at 4:42 p.m. after an employee alerted police that a man reporting for a urinalysis test had a device apparently used to provide a false sample, according to police reports. Police arrested Bobby Lane Scott, 46, of Cleburne after they discovered a small white bottle containing urine that was not his own taped to his penis.

Police responded to the 200 block of Willingham Street on a report of possible shots fired. Patrick Lee Menchaca, 24, of Cleburne told police he popped a firecracker in an ant bed in his front yard and pointed out the remains of the spent firework. Officers took Menchaca into custody after a computer check revealed he had seven outstanding Alvarado warrants.

A report of “kids coming around the residence,” summoned police to the 400 block of Ada Street at 6:01 p.m. A woman told police several juveniles were walking down the street at all times of the day, according to reports. Such behavior does not constitute an offense, an officer informed the woman.

Police took another person at the house, Christopher Lee Cogdill, 24, of Cleburne into custody after a computer check revealed he had two outstanding Cleburne warrants.
