Amanda’s Wishes celebrates first wish granted



A celebration in honor of Amanda’s Wishes, a nonprofit that helps grant the wishes of children with major health problems, will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Applebee’s in Burleson.

The organization is celebrating the first official wish it granted: a drum set for a boy in LaRue. The event is open to the public.

Amanda’s Wishes was created by Donna Goodman, whose daughter, Amanda, was born with a heart defect and had open-heart surgery when she was 6 months old.

Goodman is making granting wishes to children with major health problems her personal mission, she said in a press release.

Dressy western fundraiser returns



The third annual Hill College Boots & Suits Ball fundraiser will be held April 19 at The Forum in Whitney. Proceeds will benefit the junior college’s performing arts department. The last two years brought in more than $65,000 combined for the nursing and science departments.

Quartet will harmonize at Joshua church



The Gold City Quartet will sing at 7 p.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church of Joshua. Admission is free, and a love offering will be taken.

Information wanted for 1978 BHS grads



Plans are under way for the Burleson High School class of 1978’s 30th reunion. A date for the event has not yet been set, but officials said the reunion will probably be held in the fall.

Senior Activity Center to close for 10 days



The Burleson Senior Activity Center on Johnson Avenue will be closed for 10 days because of construction.

The center closed Friday and should reopen on March 31.

Construction crews will redo the flooring, paint the interior of the building and install a sprinkler system. Senior citizens who have appointments with tax consultants during construction can keep those appointments by meeting in the conference room at the Burleson Public Library.

The expansion includes additional restroom facilities and another large room.

Talent show highlights young skills



The third annual Christian Music Talent Show, a talent show for students in grades six through 12 hosted by the Kiwanis Club of Burleson, begins at 7 p.m. April 5. Cash scholarships will be awarded to winners.
