Shot put strikes boy at Burleson High School

A shot put accidentally struck a teenage boy in the head shortly before 5 p.m. Tuesday at Burleson High School. A CareFlite helicopter flew him to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth.

The boy’s name and details about the incident and his injuries were not immediately available.

A shot put is a metal ball a few inches in diameter that weighs several pounds. It is thrown for distance as a track and field event.
