Eubank makes second run at ‘Toughest Cowboy’ title

Cleburne’s Chad Eubank will appear on the second season of “Toughest Cowboy,” a specialized rodeo competition that airs on the Fox Sports Network. Eubank was part of the inaugural competition in 2007.

Eubank is one of the world’s top bull riders, and he excels in bareback and saddle bronc events, a combination that earned him an invitation to last year’s show.

This year some 30 cowboys tried out for the competition, and Eubank was one of 12 chosen to compete. Last year’s competition pitted eight cowboys against each other.

He said this year’s competition will earn the winner a check for $30,000 and a 36 acre ranch in Colorado. He’s already made a trip to see the site, he said.

“Toughest Cowboy” pits cowboys in head-to-head competition in each of the roughstock events. All rides are scored, with penalties assessed for failure to complete the eight-second time for each ride.

Eubank said another difference this year is that two competitors will be eliminated after the second week and another two after the third week.

The cowboys will compete in seven tournaments, and their standing at the end of that time will determine their seeding in the playoffs, according to the “Toughest Cowboy” Web site. The top four cowboys will take part in the finals.

Eubank said he looks forward to this year’s competition and hopes to improve over his fifth-place finish from last year.

He also said he will compete in local events between tournaments dates. He’ll appear in the PRCA Extreme Bullriding Jan. 15-16 in Fort Worth at the Will Rogers Memorial Center and at the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo, which begins Jan. 18.
