Thanks for the stop sign

Today, Wednesday, March 11, I returned from a doctor’s appointment and saw something I wasn’t prepared for: a city road sign worker was installing stop signs on either side of the intersecting streets on my comer!

This is in District 4, with our councilman, the Honorable John Warren, helping us to get these direly needed stop signs installed. Thank you Councilman Warren.

This location is at a very dangerous neighborhood intersection where many, many auto wrecks have occurred over the years, several of which I saw with my own eyes while standing in my front yard, a comer house.

It did take years for this issue to become a reality, with Councilman Warren assuring my fellow neighbors and me that something would be done, although he humbly advised me that getting a stop sign put up in exchange of a “yield” sign wasn’t going to be an easy feat. There had to be a state study preformed, investigations into how many accidents occurred at the location, and likely as not, miles of red tape.

But now the children and parents of our neighborhood can feel safer in walking home from the nearby school, where they used to have to play a “running game” against speeding traffic just to cross the adjoining streets.

I know many residents in Cleburne and Johnson County believe it takes way too long to get something like this situation taken care of by our elected officials, and some do take longer, but please trust me in knowing that they do what they can, when they can, and then it is up to the city, county and the state of Texas with all of that red tape before improvements become a reality. However, we should always have faith and hope in our officials, as I do in mine.

I am proud of all of the elected officials and departments who made this needed change for the better, and most certainly I extend kudos to Councilman John Warren for his hard work that will ensure more safety for our children and the driving public.

Congratulations to Dale Sturgeon

I would like to say thanks and congratulations to Dale Sturgeon for running and winning the single member district 3 city councilman position.

Getting to know Mr. Sturgeon has been a pleasure, and he will be a tremendous blessing to the city council.

He’s a man of integrity, honor and hard work. He will definitely give a 100 percent, and the city of cleburne is blessed to be getting this type of leadership to add to the city council.

Thanks, Dale.

Business as usual

Slick politics is the name of the game, the game which has been going on since early times.

However, it may have reached a new high or low depending on your viewpoint.

I used to presume that Americans stuck together when it came down to protecting this country from its enemies.

Now, our worst enemies may be some who are citizens of the USA, and even some who are congressional office holders.

It is very difficult for me to swallow the fact that American people have such diverging opinions on what is best for the U.S.

Different opinions on national issues are needed and are critical to the eventual welfare of this country, but these opinions are things, even without being made into laws, that can tear this land apart.

Congress seems to be in the throes of a blood feud with no friendly settlements likely between warring factions.

The side with the most guns is winning the battle and is taking no prisoners in what they may call “pay back time.”

The clabberheads are so indoctrinated with their own agendas that they have either completely dismissed the American country, the public and its views and needs or else they are several laps ahead of me in their thinking.

I certainly hope I am a real dummy, and they are what I will be glad to acknowledge as wonder workers.

I’m having trouble believing that our representatives actually know what is at stake or the seriousness of our predicament as they conduct themselves as “business as usual.”

Do you think these congressional clowns are performing the arts like many courtroom lawyers do when their opposing legal eagles want to joust for the benefit of their clients or the judge after they have already planned to meet for coffee or drinks after the trial?

I know that there are many high class performers in courts and in politics but I believe our congressional finger pointers are seriously disrespectful in their dislike for each other.

It’s easy to see why some would not like to be chums with characters like Nancy Pelosi or Barney Franks, and in those cases I applaud their selectivity.

However, without reasonable and respectful approaches and dissertations on these very important issues before Congress at this time, there will undoubtedly be bills passed because of mindset and not practicality nor need.

Years of damage can result before these extravangazas run their course or are nullified by more sane minds.

As even the young change seekers can observe, politicians speak with several tongues, just as they did earlier to the American Indians.

There are different tongues used for precampaign, campaign, late pre-election, early post election, post election and then still changing tongues as pre-election starts again.

You may be surprised that we old heads are disappointed but not surprised. Same old tunes, different fiddlers.

Please notice that I said politicians, not just those of one party.

Both major parties can forever hold their collective heads in shame after each has had a misguided go at doing the right things for America.

Hopefully, the elation period of the majority party’s new power will moderate so the few sane minds in the group can convince others of their job descriptions and form a coalition of wrong-righters.

The long list of wrongs may confuse and dishearten some as they have the public, but let’s hope there are yet-unheard-from, fresh, patriotic leaders in the group who will push forward and make honored names for themselves, names to be recorded in history as nation-savers.
