9/10 Letters to the editor

Thanks to Cletran

Dear Editor:

I would like to sing the praises of Cletran. My disabled daughter began riding Cleburne’s public transportation a few months ago. They pick her up at my home and transport her three times a week, round-trip, to and from her day habilitation service at the Rock House.

I have been so impressed with Cletran. Everybody I have come in contact with, whether it be the scheduler or the many drivers, have been very professional, courteous and helpful. The drivers treat my daughter, who has numerous disabilities, with respect. They are always on time and dependable.

Cletran is an asset to our county and deserves praise for the service that they offer our community. Thank you, Cletran, for making my life a little easier!

Sincerely,

Diana Morrison

A great Cleburne event

Dear Editor:

It’s begun again folks, one of the great happenings of the year. It’s an astounding sight to behold. Not everyone has the privilege to view this great spectacle as we do here in Cleburne. There are some outstanding seats available in town to view one of the greatest events of the year. Seats are available at the intersections of West Henderson and Ridgeway, Ridgeway and Woodard, West Henderson and Nolan River Road and all places in between. However, the above mentioned intersections are the best choices of the viewing areas. The times are scheduled somewhere between 7:30-8:15 a.m., also between 3:45-4:15 p.m. If you’re wondering what this great activity is, it’s none other than apprentice drivers (mostly moms) practicing for the great (just kidding) “Demolition Derby.”

What the liberal media doesn’t tell you

Dear Editor:

To update a phrase by Thomas Jefferson — “A man who doesn’t watch television at all is better informed than one who watches for information.”

The liberal media reminds us daily a number of our young soldiers have been killed in Iraq. After 41 months in the war it is around 2,600.

What they don’t tell you is that about 23,000 young Americans age 15-19 were killed in traffic accidents during the same period of time.

And more appalling to me is that about 3.5 million inconvenient babies were aborted during the same period of time.

I am not here to preach to people, but to try to bring them knowledge that most don’t have the time to discover. And because of the third statistic above and the Democratic politicians marching in the front of the yearly parades to celebrate the anniversary of Roe vs. Wade, I cannot understand how anybody could vote Democratic.

No room for smear campaigns in local races

Dear Editor:

We have far too much fear and smear in the national political arena to be importing any of it into our local races.

One can be sure that fear and smear are used by a candidate only when he or she doesn’t have stronger points to rely on — no record to tout — no other assets.

The smear article in the Times-Review written by Matt Smith about Van Taylor attacking Chet Edwards for his help to a Waco insurance company, a constituent of his, in its dealing with the military on insurance matters is a classic case of Karl Rove’s tactic of attacking an opponent’s strengths.

No other U.S. congressman has a stronger and better record of supporting the military and it’s personnel — both active duty and veterans — than Chet Edwards.

We are so fortunate to finally have a congressman who spends all of his time working hard for the people of the district he represents. No grandstanding, no loud and harsh rhetoric, no picking on the less advantaged and no hiding behind “hot button” issues.

If more districts in Texas as well as the other states would elect representatives like Chet Edwards, rather than so many demagogues, things would soon be running smoothly.
