7/8/2007 Letters to the Editor
Thanks from the CABC
Dear Editor:
On behalf of the Cleburne Athletic Booster Club board, we would like to thank all of our contributors for 2006-07 school year. The booster club raised $185,000 plus with $118,000 going to the student athletes in all the sports. The balance of the money after expenses is in the $28,000 range. We can’t explain in words what this past year meant to the students at Cleburne High School, and without your help none of this would be possible. We are looking forward to the 2007-08 school year with the experience of trying to do an even better job for our athletes.
Sincerely,
Rodney C. Fowler,
2006-07 CABC president
Brad Allen,
2007-08 CABC president
Thanks from Plaza Theatre Company
Dear Editor:
As directors of the Cleburne Performing Arts Foundation we appreciated the letter submitted last week by Sandy Parsons and her review of the Plaza Theatre Company. In 2006 the Downtown Cleburne Association began a course of action to bring activities to the downtown business district as a means of attracting people and new businesses to the area.
We were indeed fortunate to meet the Barrus and Siler families, who shared similar desires that we expressed. Our joint vision was to bring weekly live theater to the downtown business district and create an anchor entertainment destination.
The foundation hired Aaron Siler as director of operations and Jason Barrus as artistic director. Both of these men and their wives have many years of experience in community theater, and their model for operation is a tested and proven successful business plan.
We are extremely gratified that Ms. Parsons and many others enjoyed their experience at Plaza Theatre enough to attend multiple performances of the same play. That says a lot about the quality of entertainment produced by Plaza Theatre Company.
Any nonprofit organization’s continued existence depends on the quality of its product or service and the community’s financial support. We feel that Plaza Theatre Company delivers a quality product. All of us thank donors who have already financially supported Plaza Theatre. Continuing individual and business support will be required to keep this group entertaining Cleburne and the surrounding community for many years to come.
Come see “Oklahoma,” which started Friday, and discuss with someone how you or your business can financially support Plaza Theatre.

Impressed with Lawn Tech
Dear Editor:
Lawn Tech has provided lawn care services for me for the past two years. They have done a great job reviving my lawn and getting rid of the weeds. My lawn looks great! However, I was particularly impressed with something that happened about a month ago.
I received a message on my voice mail one Wednesday afternoon. Lawn Tech normally mows my lawn on Wednesdays. The message said that one of the workers had somehow broken the glass in my storm door. Lawn Tech said to get the door replaced, and they would pay for it.
I was not only impressed that Lawn Tech had taken responsibility and offered to pay for the damage without hiring lawyers and threatening lawsuits, I was particularly impressed that they had taken the initiative to call me before I got home and discovered the damage.
I would recommend that other businesses, and people, look at the great example Lawn Tech has given us. It’s great when businesses, and people, take responsibility for their actions.

Thanks from COI
Dear Editor:
Recently Community Opportunities Inc. hosted a very special event for the developmentally disabled in Johnson County and from the surrounding area. We have hosted the Opportunity Prom for three consecutive years, and it just keeps getting bigger and better. We would not be able to have this event if it were not for the wonderful neighbors in Johnson County who always step up to support us. I would like to take a moment to thank the wonderful sponsors including Cleburne Funeral Home, Jimmy and Carol Wray, Cowan Costumes, Southwestern Colorgraphics, Bob King Coldwell Banker Realty, Texas DME, Grandview Bank, Dr. Robert Maberry, Tom and Krissy Crabtree, Ballman Insurance, Sears, Jason and Leslie Cech, Kathy Key Short, Charlene McCarty, Ed and Betty Murphy and Jan Hannah. Support was also given with in-kind donations, including dresses, suits, makeup, shoes and accessories. Thanks to the Johnson County Association of Realtors, Juanita Dobbins, Repeat Performance, Rachel Dalby and Jo Young. Services including hair styles, manicures and pedicures were provided by the cosmetology students of Hill College, Becca Reid and the stylists of Cuttin’ Up Salon and the Beauty Gallery. I would also like to thank Durham Transportation who provided rides for the ladies to their hair and nail appointments. We also had many, many volunteers who came to make the night wonderful. Gay Norman with Diamond G Carriage provided rides for the prom-goers, La Fiesta provided the meal, Bill Bates and his band played the music, Jack Smith was the photographer. I would like to also thank the wonderful committee who worked to make this event a night to remember and did a phenomenal job. Amy Geisen, Donna Turner, Roxann Bingham, Deb Northrop, Patti Bain, Jackie Rives, Beverly Iness, Jane Bonham, Johnny and Nelda Morris and Sue Renfro served as our prom committee. Also assisting us with this event were Kathy Smith, Janet Skinner, Wanda Holloway, Kristy Hanshew and Paul Badgett. Thanks also to the many folks who came and volunteered to escort, serve and work at the prom, which included many staff, family and friends of COI. Thanks to each of you!
