Keep government out of car business
Dear Editor:
I’ll keep this short and sweet.
The government does not belong in the car business.
A once proud U.S. car company and it’s employees are now on the public payroll. It’s an affront to every American who believes in free enterprise.
Because I can’t seem to stop the government from misusing my tax dollars, my protest will be in the form of purchasing power.
So ...
I will never purchase any kind of vehicle, new or used, from what has become Government Motors.
I’ll go a step further; I will never even consider purchasing a vehicle manufactured by, or offered for sale by, Government Motors.
Never.

We are a Christian nation
Dear Editor:
Welcome to the United States of Islam.
You heard him with his own words folks; he said, “We are not a Christian nation.”
He denied our whole heritage, our reason for being.
The pilgrims did not found this country to escape God. They just wanted to worship him in their own way with out interference from the state.
In the countries they were in the state did dictate the manner and method of worship.
God is woven into every aspect of our nation.
Think about it. Every law we have is based in the 10 Commandments.
This business of separation of church and state is a bunch of baloney. It is not in the constitution.
It was read into it by liberal judges who would like to destroy Christianity in this country, and now we have Obama who is determined to do so and replace it with his own putrid religion.
We need to get Obama out of the presidency before the country is sold completely to the heathen.
But what a spot we are in. If he goes then we have Joe Biden.
So we have our choice between a traitorous villain or someone who is mentally incompetent, who disturbs his own party when he opens his mouth, and after him the choices are even worse.
Call your congressional elected official now. Call for impeachment.

Thanks for Relay support
Dear Editor:
As chair of this year’s Johnson County Relay For Life committee, I would like to thank residents of Johnson County for their generosity and support.
Johnson County residents really demonstrated their spirit and inspired hope this past weekend.
We had a record attendance for the event and feel very blessed with the tremendous turnout.
We had 81 teams participating this year, which was a new record, and our thanks goes out to Jennifer Vanderlaan and her committee for an outstanding job.
The teams represented individuals, area businesses, churches, and other service organizations.
Deb Matthews and her committee also set a record for sponsorships, and she is to be commended for her hard work.
Because of the dedication of our entire community, we will be able to provide more money to the American Cancer Society, which means we will be able to speed up the search for new weapons to fight cancer.
Overall, this was a wonderful event, and we could never begin to thank the hundreds of volunteers who worked so hard.
What we can do is remind everyone that until there is a cure for cancer we must keep fighting.
In closing, we want to apologize for the long lines at the rest rooms.
We were totally unprepared for the crowd and assure you it will not happen again.
Be advised that at Relay 2010, there will be adequate accommodations.
Again, on behalf of our entire committee we thank you “Johnson County” for your support and generosity of Relay For Life.

Cemeteries are sacred ground
Dear Editor:
I can’t agree more with the “One Mans Treasure” article in Tuesday’s paper.
My family has burial plot at Midway Cemetery. About 1½ year ago, we stumbled onto one of the geocaches while walking around the property. I too was stunned.
I felt it to be very disrespectful that someone thought it acceptable to intrude on such sacred grounds for a game of hide and seek.
Midway Cemetery is such an old cemetery with graves dating back to the 1800s.
Many of the graves are only marked with large rocks as headstones.
Although the geocache rules say not to dig with a shovel or pointed object, the one we found was located under a rock that you could tell had recently been unearthed.
That is why it caught our attention.
That rock could have very well been a headstone.
Once the earth around it was disturbed, erosion started and now there is a large washed out hole in the area.
To the geochachers: I’m not a prude; your game actually sounds kind of fun. But you have so many other choices, you really should leave the cemeteries alone.
They are precious grounds, the final resting place to mourn and to remember our lost loved ones, to feel a sense of peace and serenity.
And thank you to Jim Sloan, the work-crew members, Doris Lanfear and the cemetery association for such a wonderful job with the cemetery maintenance.
Your hard work is greatly appreciated.

Cool cat
Dear Editor:
I realize that many of the younger voters took to Cool Hussein like a fish to water because they didn’t like the Bush years and wanted change of any type.
That reminds me of a remarried widow’s remarks.
Realizing her mistake in her second marriage to a con artist, she allowed that there are things worse than being lonely.
Admittedly, the Republicans could and should have done much better in some phases of their time of majority rule, but remember they were put into office partly because voters were sick of the Slick Willy Clinton crowd.
We might remember not to put either party into complete control in the future because bipartisanship seems to out of style.
Cool Obama may be your idea of a real blessing for this country with his changes, as promised, but he scares the heck out of me.
More scary is how so many have lapsed into a state of awe similar to the followers of Elvis and the Beatles and cultist Jim Jones.
At least, the first two made for lasting entertainment.
This secretive and perhaps unnaturalized citizen has brought into his cabinet several worrisome types who, like himself, couldn’t pass national security standards before they were elected.
Now, they are in the driver’s seat with full access to this country’s wealth, security, power and secrets.
I cringe when thinking about how they are entrenched and may continue ripping off the values and wealth of the USA.
It appears that this man of unknown character and a smooth mouth is often following socialistic and communistic philosophies in his sermons and activities.
How can even a power-drunk Democratic Congress rush to vote with little question for everything that he lays in front of them?
I hate that most Democratic congressmen are puppets of the rabid Pelosi and Reid and apparently believe in Obama’s untested programs in such overwhelming numbers.
Have they arrived at a state of complete partisanship that could flush the values of American history, tradition, culture, government and religion into the sewer to be replaced by philosophical theories that have proven to be complete failures in several other countries?
We don’t want to be headed in the same direction that Hitler led a German people wanting change and as Lenin and his followers led a discouraged Russia wanting change.
God save us from such a fate, even though we may deserve it.
Remember that remarried widow who wanted change from loneliness and found that being lonely is better than some things?
If you feel these words to be accurate observations, and you are not too intimidated to act, do so.
Voice and action can be powerful, particularly when large numbers of folks are involved towards a worthwhile cause.
May God look on it as a worthwhile endeavor for those of us who still consider America as a nation built on Christianity but who have not been diligent enough in our beliefs.
If you do feel strongly enough about this country and your appreciation for its meaning to you and your children and grandchildren, make some noise and be heard by local, state and national politicians.
Some needed changes include regaining our individual patriotism and the backbone that goes with it.
