Thanks to Wall of Hope sponsors
Dear Editor:
The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is a life-changing event that brings our community together in the fight against cancer. The cancer survivors, caregivers, family and friends who participate here are joined by hundreds of thousands more across the country.
The committed volunteers that plan the Relay For Life of Johnson County are grateful for the consistent support of the team captains, supporters, community groups and local sponsors that make it all happen.
This year, in particular, we thank Jeff England Motor Company and Prudential Texas Properties for sponsoring the Wall of Hope. At the conclusion of local Relay For Life events, 5,000 Wall of Hope banners will make their way to our nation’s capital for Celebration on the Hill 2006, an event that will show our country’s lawmakers how the American Cancer Society is waging the fight against cancer in communities nationwide.
On Sept. 19–20 in Washington, D.C., the banners will be compiled into one Wall of Hope monument on the National Mall, demonstrating the unity of the entire country in support of cancer survivors and their families. Stephanie Huffman and I will attend Celebration on the Hill as ambassadors from Congressional District 17.
Relay For Life participants were invited to sign the Wall of Hope Banner at the Johnson County event Friday and Saturday in Cleburne. For information about Celebration on the Hill and Wall of Hope, visit www.acscan.org.
Sincerely,
Mary Ann Wheatley

This is still a democracy
Dear Editor:
In recent editions of the Times-Review statements have gone back and forth between U.S. Rep. Chet Edwards and his challenger, Van Taylor, about several issues.
At least the back and forth has been shots taken by the Taylor campaign and the county Republican chairman, Dan Hunt. I know it is grating for the Republicans to have to deal with a Democrat in public office. However, this is still nominally a democracy and in democracies it is customary to have different voices disclosing more than one side to an issue or stating differing opinions concerning an issue. Merely because the opinion or the voice is that of a Democrat does not make the thoughts wicked, improper or disloyal.
As regards the Ham Creek project, this is something that the people of Rio Vista have been seeking for many years. Yes, Mr. Hunt, it is “our tax dollars at work.” The people of the southern part of Johnson County pay taxes just like everyone else.
Under previous Republican representation their wishes were ignored. I think it is high time the southern end of the county got a little attention instead of everything going to Cleburne, Burleson and Joshua. Perhaps there is a silver lining to the ridiculous gerrymandering of the 17th district.
Sincerely,
Sharon Corder

Thanks to Bono church
Dear Editor:
I just wanted to say thank you to the Bono church for the activities they put on last weekend. My children and others had a blast. I think it was such fun and my kids had a great time. They went out of their way to make sure everyone was having a good time.
Thank You,
Tonya Carr
