Watson recognized for his work at the Times-Review
Dear Editor:
So often we read something really pleasing in your paper and smile to ourselves, thinking we should call or write that person to thank them. Unless the article is nasty in some manner, or if we totally disagree, seldom will we remember to call or write.
John Watson, who does feature stories for the Times-Review, should be recognized for his stories about Texas and Johnson County history. His recent articles about our historic old cemeteries were especially interesting to us.
Larue Barnes is another of your writers who brings pleasure to your readers who look forward to her articles.

Disappointed with Cleburne Soccer Association
Dear Editor:
I would like to start by saying thank you to the United Football Club of Johnson County and to the city of Cleburne for putting on such a great soccer tournament this past weekend. However, I am very disappointed with the Cleburne Soccer Association for not wanting to have anything to do with this tournament. CSA was the main entity that pushed for the 4B tax so that we could have better soccer fields in Cleburne, and that one day we could host a soccer tournament here in Cleburne. Well, Cleburne hosted its first soccer tournament and where was the Cleburne Soccer Association?
I hope that we will continue to have many more tournaments. I enjoy watching my girls play soccer and they love playing it. Cleburne Soccer Association should think about the kids and not about whose idea it was to have this tournament.
Again, thank you to the city of Cleburne, the police department, the helpers with the concession stands and to the United Football Club of Johnson County for a great weekend.

Taking a positive outlook is a good thing
Dear Editor:
It was brought to my attention recently that we should keep a positive outlook and attitude about most everything, and I certainly agree. Even though some of my written thoughts may have come through as negative about some issues, my feelings have been to expose negative forces at work on positive positions.
These negative forces or events are such things that pull away from our very positive force, the U.S.A., that we cherish. If talking against bad things of danger is negative then talking in favor of bad things should be positive. I can’t believe that is right.
Positive usually indicates progress or good, whereas negative usually indicates taking away from or bad. To speak negatively of bad things sounds much like my parents and grandparents telling and showing me how to respond to bad things and influences; do not perpetuate bad things and either put them down or deny them. On the other hand, associate yourself with good people and good movements while speaking of them in positive and warm words.
It seems to be true that positive-type people do draw people to them while persistently negative people eventually find themselves walking alone. A fire alarm can be considered as negative since you don’t like to hear it go off, and it means losses, but it’s actually a very positive sound if you consider it’s the fire that is destroying things negatively and the alarm is a positive influence saving property and lives.
I write my little two bits worth to be alarming on occasion to stimulate positive thinking and action against very negative forces. I also consider many subjects and events in light and frivolous ways and even with joy and humor. I don’t take myself too seriously, most days.
We do need to very seriously and positively think about problems associated with immigration and its consequences, about a potential Islamic catastrophe here or abroad, negative influences [bipartisan] in our government, the lobbying influence and its power hold, and how to salvage our precious water supply.
Positive solutions to these negative manifestations are in order. Pick one or two to delve into between soap operas or rat killings, and do it with the old positive attitude. If we worried as much about these aforementioned problems as we do about the sudden stock market drop, our thoughts would be in the right direction.
Was the stock market skid a positive or negative movement? Maybe negative since some personal losses may occur or as a positive [alarm] which indicates that economical corrections need to be made. As we get used to eating too high on the hog, we need reminding, in a big way, to moderate our hunger for things because excesses are not indefinitely available.
