Keene council members voted down a proposal to purchase a $10,500 street sweeper Thursday for the city’s public works department. The sweeper had not been budgeted in the current budget, which went into effect Oct. 1, City Secretary Barbara Fuller said. Council members elected to stay within the constraints of the budget, she said, although they may revisit the purchase of the sweeper at a later date.
Council members also tabled a vote on an ordinance concerning vehicle idling limitations. The ordinance addresses vehicles more than 14,000 pounds, mainly tractor trailers, Fuller said. Council members intend to gather more information on the matter before bringing it back up for vote, she said.
The council approved extending early voting hours on Oct. 22 and 27 for 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the Nov. 4 city council elections. Early voting in the election runs from Oct. 20-31. Up for election are the mayor’s seat and three council seats.
