N. Joshua hosts special visitors

JOSHUA — North Joshua Elementary hosted special visitors on campus the week of Sept. 14-18.

The second grade has been studying communities and service workers and extended an invitation to Mayor Merle Breitenstein to discuss city government.

The mayor brought several city officials with him.

Students heard presentations from Paulette Hartman, city Manager; Annabeth Robertson, chief of police; Mike Peacock, director of operations; Leland Cheek, Joshua police lieutenant; and Breitenstein.

The officials explained their roles in city government and covered important information such as when it is appropriate to call 911 and how to react if a house is on fire.

Hartman informed students about some of the features that will be included in the new city park that will open sometime in 2010.

The entire North Joshua student body also celebrated its annual Grandparents Day.

Hundreds of grandparents visited their grandchildren for lunch on that day.

Students whose grandparents were not able to attend were “adopted” by the grandparents of their classmates so everyone had a special day.
