The Joshua High School band spent its weekend in New Orleans on an invitation to perform during halftime of the Bowl Championship Series game between Louisiana State University and the University of Alabama.

Most school districts celebrate Christmas
Ask most of the school districts in Johnson County how they feel about “Merry Christmas” or Santa Claus, and the response is the same. Christmas is welcome in most schools, so long as students take care to not play favorites with individual gifts.

County schools offering healthier options
According to the Centers for Disease Control, about one-third of all Americans are obese. More than 22 percent of Texans are obese. That may not come as a surprise, but in Johnson County, the latest numbers from 2008 suggested more than 29.3 percent of adults over the age of 20 tip the scales into the obese category, and the eating habits of Mom and Dad are being passed down to children.

Hard hats go for little heads
Heads were turning recently at Caddo Grove Elementary School in Joshua, when the Texas Medical Society and Johnson County Medical Society donated 100 bicycle helmets to honor Michael Shaff, a fourth-grade student who was injured in a bicycle/automobile accident in April.

Joshua's Vaughn headed to state golf tournament
Dillon Vaughn of Joshua is headed to the UIL Class 4A state golf tournament after beating Burleson’s Colby Webb by a stroke in a sudden-death playoff to finish second individually at the Region I Tournament in Abilene on Tuesday.
