Grandview resident Bart Basham recently filed to compete for the Johnson County Commissioner Precinct 4 position.
Basham will compete in the March 2 Republican primary against the incumbent, Commissioner Don Beeson, who also recently filed to seek re-election for a second term.
The March 2 primary winner will be the winner of November’s election as no Democrats filed to compete in the race.
Basham grew up in Grandview and graduated Grandview High School in 1986.
Shortly after he graduated, Basham went to work for Precinct 4 as a road crew member for more than seven years.
“This is where I learned the skills I needed to apply in the private sector trucking and road construction business,” Basham said. “Participating in the private sector as an owner and officer for K-T Transportation Inc. has given me the knowledge and understanding to fulfill the administrative role of the county commissioner’s office.
“The current political climate of the nation at this time appeals to people like me to become more involved in local government. Due to my work experience, and past employment at the county, I am confident that I am the best candidate for this office.”
Basham has been married to his wife, Gina Shaw Basham, for 19 years.
She graduated from Cleburne High School in 1989 and Southwestern Adventist University in 1993 with a degree in nursing.
The couple have two daughters, Kalani, 14, and Hannah, 11. Both attend Grandview schools.
“We are active in the community through sports and school activities and are members of the First Baptist Church of Grandview,” Basham said. “The county was a large part of our lives during the early years of our marriage, and I hope ... the office of commissioner can be the place I can serve the residents of Precinct 4.”
