A burglar or burglars with a nose for money pulled off a sizable heist in the early morning hours Dec. 7 in Alvarado on North Cummings, according to Johnson County Sheriff’s Office reports.
Investigator Leona Yocham said a complainant advised that someone used a rock to break a window in the front door of Lucky Mart in order to gain access, then opened the safe and took $9,240.
On Thursday on Samuel Lane in Mansfield, someone entered the complainant’s garage and removed a torch with welder valued at $120, an acteylene bottle valued at $100, an oxygen bottle valued at $100, and an air compressor of unknown value.
Two additional Dec. 7 burglaries were being investigated.
On Farm-to-Market Road 2280 in Keene, actors entered a residence and removed mini-blinds. On U.S. 67 in Keene, someone entered a residence and took a television. The property was valued at $200.
On Dec. 4 on FM 316 in Cleburne, a victim was attacked by two pit bulls when the suspect allegedly ordered the dogs to attack.
Authorities were also investigating a number of recent assaults.
They responded to a call involving an alleged assault with bodily injury on Dec. 4 on Futrell Court in Cleburne, The suspect reportedly closed a door on the complainant’s hand, causing injury.
Dec. 6 on County Road 1022 in Joshua, in a dispute between a boyfriend and girlfriend, the suspect allegedly hit the complainant in the face with a fist.
On Nov. 26, on East Bethesda in Burleson in a dispute between aboyfriend and girlfriend, the suspect allegedly assaulted the victim by making contact that was provocative.
Three additional assaults at one location, Marie Street in Joshua, were reported Dec. 1. Three officers and Sheriff Bob Alford responded.
In one incident involving a son-in-law and mother-in-law, the suspect hit the complainant in the face with a fist, causing a front bottom tooth to be knocked loose and causing pain.
In the second incident, involving a son-in-law and father-in-law, the suspect reportedly punched the complainant in the face with a closed fist, causing pain and blood.
In the third incident, involving a husband and wife, the suspect reportedly hit the victim multiple times and then struck the victim with a plunger, causing a possible fracture to the victim’s hand.

Rescue workers pull body from water
Alvarado and Cleburne firefighters pulled the body of a man from moving water near County Road 607 caused by rain about 1 p.m. Wednesday. The man attempted to cross a high-water crossing in his truck and became stuck, Cleburne Fire Chief Clint Ishmael said. According to reports, rescue workers saw the man in the water earlier Wednesday morning but were unable to reach him. The identity of the man has not been released.
