High school call a ruse for Huddle House robbery
A Tuesday call reporting a burglary at Joshua High School turned out to be a distraction from a robbery in progress.
Joshua police officer Kristie Sessions was dispatched to the alleged burglary at JHS at 4:30 a.m.
The call reporting the incident originated from a male who was calling from a pay phone at a Valero station down the street from the high school.
After arrival at JHS, Sessions was dispatched to a robbery in progress at the Huddle House Restaurant in Joshua. The call about the high school was apparently a ruse to tie Sessions up on the call away from the scene of the robbery.
A white male wearing a ski mask and sunglasses walked into Huddle House and gave the cashier a note that said, “This is a hold up and this is not a joke,” The note to the cashier contained other instructions, including to wait 15 minutes before calling the police.
The cashier followed the instructions with the exception of waiting 15 minutes.
After the suspect left Huddle House, he ran behind the nearby Sonic Restaurant.
Police later found a ski mask, sunglasses, gloves, a shirt, pants and a jacket behind the Sonic.
Police believe the suspect parked on Veatch Street and walked through a wooded area to Huddle House.
The case remains under investigation. Anyone with information about the incident should call JPD investigator Ron Redding at 817-558-3194.
