Commissioners to canvass votes

The Johnson County Commissioners Court will consider canvassing the votes of the Constitutional amendment elections and the local option election for alcohol sales in Rio Vista at a special meeting Monday.

The Nov. 3 elections marked the seventh time since 2005 Rio Vista voted on alcoholic beverage sales for off-premise consumption in Rio Vista, rejecting it four times. The item passed by 47 votes.

Judges voided the two times the proposition was approved based on illegal votes and signatures.

Unofficial polling results show that nine of the 11 Constitutional amendment propositions passed in Johnson County. Statewide, all 11 measures passed.

Proposition 1, which would have allowed a city or county to issue bonds to purchase areas next to military installations for road ways and utilities or to prevent encroachment, was voted down by 319 votes.

Proposition 4, which failed by 267 votes, would have established a national research university fund to finance research in emerging universities.

The court meets at 9 a.m. Monday morning in Room 201 of the Johnson County Courthouse at 2 Main St. in Cleburne.
