Cleburne showcased in new magazine
Cleburne This is Texas available at chamber
A new magazine released last week gives visitors and new residents a glimpse of what the Cleburne community is like, said Cleburne Chamber of Commerce President Cathy Marchel.
This is the second year for the Cleburne This is Texas magazine, which is created by the Cleburne Times-Review.
“I had run into several magazine companies that had been soliciting us trying to get us to do a magazine,” Marchel said. “The Times-Review has been doing the Community Life magazine, and I thought if we could do a magazine like that to promote the community that would give a breath of what we have in our community, then we should do it.”
The magazine was a partnership between the chamber and the newspaper.
“We planned for this project to be a cross between a visitor’s guide for newcomers and an information tool for current residents of Cleburne,” said Times-Review Publisher Kay Helms. “It’s a once-a-year special edition, so many meetings and planning sessions were held to ensure we had all of the information we needed and that it was correct, so our readers are able to get a feel for what Cleburne is all about.
“We’re the main source of news for Cleburne and Johnson County and the chamber is in the business of promoting what Cleburne has to offer. What better way to do it than to put our heads together to create Cleburne This is Texas?”
The magazine has four main sections: city, county, education and entertainment. There are also feature stories on economic development, Cleburne Golf Links, Chisholm Trail Outdoor Museum, chamber, events and entertainment, and the history of the county.
“We worked hard on this throughout this year because we wanted Cleburnites to be proud of it when they saw it,” said Times-Review Managing Editor Dale Gosser. “We wanted people to realize the many good things Cleburne has as well as be able to gain a little information about their city they might not have known about.”
The magazines are available at the Cleburne Chamber of Commerce at 1511 W. Henderson St., and Times-Review office at 108 S. Anglin St. They will also be out at hotels, doctors’ offices and grocery stores in Cleburne.
“As many places as we can get them is great,” Marchel said.
Several residents had an early look at the magazine when it was passed out at the Cleburne Rotary Club and Cleburne Lions Club meetings and the chamber’s after-hours business social this past week.
“I thought it was fantastic,” said David Murdoch, president of the Johnson County Hertiage Foundation. “We were kind of overwhelmed with the amount of coverage.
“What I like about it is it takes us back to the beginnings of Cleburne. There’s a lot of history stories in it. There’s a lot of people moving into Cleburne that don’t know the history of Cleburne, and I think it’s very important for them to know that.”
