UPRA rodeo to begin Friday

Johnson County Sheriff’s Posse will host the first United Professional Rodeo Association Rodeo, offering a $4,500 purse, Friday and Saturday at the Sheriff’s Posse Rodeo Arena south of Cleburne.

Performances will begin at 7 each night.

Top professional rodeo cowboys will compete in bareback and saddle bronc riding, bull riding and steer wrestling. Roping events will include calf roping, team roping and break-away roping.

Competitive barrel racing is offered for cowgirls.

An event new to Cleburne rodeos will be the ranch bronc riding. Ranch hands from the area, who are not professional cowboys, will compete for prize money. Local nonassociation entries will be accepted in all events.

The Benji Allen band will furnish the music for a rodeo dance Friday night at the Blue Barn on the posse grounds.

Cost is $5, or a rodeo-dance combination ticket is $8.

Rodeo tickets are available at the gate. General admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children 4-12. Children 3 and younger are admitted free. Parking is free.
