Donna Martin Troutt, 51, of Joshua was in critical condition at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth Tuesday morning after suffering life-threatening injuries in a reported family violence incident Monday.
Her son, Conner Lynn Troutt, 17, of Joshua was arraigned Tuesday in Justice of the Peace Ronny McBroom’s court on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon family violence serious bodily injury, a first degree felony. Bond was set at $150,000.
McBroom also issued a protective order barring the suspect from being within 500 feet of the victim’s residence or John Peter Smith Hospital for 91 days.
Lt. Tim Jones of Johnson County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded a little before 5 p.m. to a reported assault in progress in the 1600 block of County Road 706 outside the Joshua city limits. The call came from the victim’s daughter, whose name was not released, Jones said.
“That’s how the call came in,” Jones said. “I think it was probably after the [assault].”
Deputies found the woman severely beaten, Jones said, and she was transported to John Peter Smith Hospital in extremely critical condition.
Specific injuries were not revealed because they are part of an active investigation, Jones said.
Deputies recovered a baseball bat allegedly used in the assault.
Jones said he did not know what led to the violence.
The suspect was arrested by Fort Worth police after he fled Johnson County in a vehicle.
“He was involved in a couple of accidents on the way to Fort Worth,” Jones said. “He was apparently involved in an accident in Fort Worth, and when he saw a police officer, he abandoned his vehicle and started running.”
He was reportedly hit by a passing car and taken to John Peter Smith Hospital for treatment before being returned to Johnson County. He was booked into Johnson County Law Enforcement Center Monday night.
Johnson County deputies were already familiar with the suspect, Jones said.
“He’s been handled by us a couple of times.”
Troutt was previously charged with assault family violence and theft.
