Zonta meeting to honor Earhart
The Zonta Club of Johnson County will honor the memory of Amelia Earhart at its meeting on Wednesday
Clubs worldwide honor her trailblazing spirit every Jan. 11, Amelia Earhart Day, which commemorates the day she became the first woman to fly solo over the Pacific Ocean.
Additionally, the Zonta International Foundation awards 35 Amelia Earhart Fellowships in the amount of $10,000 each to women who are pursuing advanced degrees in the aerospace-related science and engineering fields
The guest speaker for the meeting is Kay Cosper of Lockheed Martin. She’ll provide inspiration to high school girls to enter the fields of science and mathematics.
Additionally she’ll share the changes in airplane designs that Lockheed has implemented since Amelia flew the Lockheed Electra in 1937.
Earhart flew her first solo flight in 1932 over the Atlantic in a modified Lockheed Vega. She then flew a Lockheed Electra when she attempted to travel around the earth in 1937.
Cosper was named director of program operations on the F-35 JSF Program in April 2004. She has worked for Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company and its heritage companies since 1979 and began her career as a logistics contract analyst, responsible for the administration of the logistical contract requirements for F-16 Support Equipment.
Cosper graduated from Baylor University in 1979 with a BBA in management. In 1995, she received an MBA with a focus in multinational management also from Baylor University. She is a life member of the Baylor Alumni Association and assists the Dallas EMBA Program with recruitment.
She and her husband, Jim, live in Fort Worth ,where they are active members of the First United Methodist Church. Kay is a member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas.
