Jan. 31 is usually the last day to pay property taxes without incurring penalties or interest, Johnson County Tax Assessor Collector Scott Porter said, but because that falls on a weekend this year, the deadline has been extended to Monday.
Residents may pay by mail, online or in person.
If paying by mail, the U.S. Post Office cancellation mark is considered the date of payment.
Residents are urged to be sure they get a Feb. 1 or earlier cancelation mark on their envelope.
Residents mailing payment on the deadline date should check pick up times at the mailbox or take the envelope inside the post office to ensure a Feb. 1 post mark.
The mailing address for the Johnson County Tax Office is: P.O. Box 75 Cleburne, TX 76033.
Payments can also be made online by credit card or eCheck at www.johnsoncountytaxoffice.org. The processor charges a convenience fee of which the county retains no portion.
Residents may also pay in person at any of the three Johnson County Tax Office locations from 8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Locations include:
zx Johnson County Annex in Cleburne at 2 N. Mill St.
zx Burleson Subcourthouse at 247 Elk Drive.
zx Alvarado Subcourthouse at 118 S. Friou St.
Disabled residents and those older than 65 may pay their taxes in four installments, but must pay at least one fourth by Monday to qualify. The remaining payments will be due March 31, May 31 and July 31. Such residents must indicate on their first payment that they are paying their taxes in installments, Porter said.
“Unfortunately, the tax code does not allow installment payments for a disabled veteran exemption,” Porter said.
