Golfers enjoy beautiful weather for tournament

By Monica Green/features@trcle.com

Two courses at Squaw Valley Golf Course in Glen Rose provided a successful day of golfing Friday for participants in the ninth annual Cleburne Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament.

More than 200 golfers turned out for the event, which began with a shotgun start at 10 a.m.

“It was a great success,” said Cathy Marchel, chamber president. “The weather was great the whole time.

“It was just right because the golfers got in about the same time and all got to start together.”

Organizers hope next year’s tournament can be held at Cleburne’s Golf Links, set to open in early 2009.

“Everyone was very pleased with the course itself and played through real nicely with no backups,” Marchel said. “Then everybody enjoyed a real nice barbecue dinner that Squaw Valley provided.

“It was a great tournament overall. We appreciate the support to the chamber.”

Three raffle drawings were held. Duff Cunningham won a Remington over-under 12-gauge shotgun and a $100 gift certificate to Cheaper Than Dirt that was provided by Texas CQB.

Joe Browder won a $200 gift certificate to Del Frisco’s and a limo ride provided by Racing Limos.

Gerald Amos won a weekend getaway to the Stockyards that includes a two-night stay in the Hyatt, dinner for two at Cattlemen’s Steakhouse, rodeo tickets and much more.
