Council to vote on vehicle purchases

Members hope to fill assistant city manager position

By Matt Smith/msmith@trcle.com

Cleburne City Council members will vote on proposals to purchase vehicles and golf course equipment Tuesday.

The first proposal calls for purchasing four Cletran buses from Texas Bus Sales Inc. at a cost of $231,890. Grant money from the Texas Department of Transportation coupled with city matching funds will cover the cost.

Council members will also consider the purchase of five fully equipped Dodge Charger police cars from Dallas Dodge for $214,900.

A third proposal concerns the purchase of $32,500 worth of kitchen equipment from GST Manufacturing. The equipment will be used in the club house at the Cleburne Golf Links Course, which is presently under construction.

Council members will also vote on a resolution authorizing City Manager Chester Nolen to hire Ideal Architectural Designs to provide architectural services for the new Cleburne Chamber of Commerce facility. The current chamber building is to be demolished and a new one built on its spot.

The council will vote on Nolen’s request that they appoint Rick Holden as the new assistant city manager. Holden presently serves as the city’s public services director. Adam Miles, the previous assistant city manager, resigned last month to accept a job as city manager in Hewitt.

The council will vote to authorize Nolen to execute an agreement with E-Waste Collections to hold an electronics recycling event in the city on Nov. 8. The event will allow residents to recycle computers, small electronics and televisions.

Council members will vote on a resolution accepting the population estimate of Cleburne at 30,272 based on data provided by the North Central Texas Council of Governments. The estimates are based on a study completed in 2007.

During their Sept. 18 meeting, the Cleburne 4B Economic Development Board established a Railroad Museum Advisory Board to consist of two 4B members, one city council member and two Cleburne residents. The 4B board has asked the council to appoint a council member to the board during Tuesday’s meeting.

The council will also consider filling two vacancies on the 4B board.

The Cleburne City Council meet at 7 p.m. in Cleburne City Hall on 10 N. Robinson St. A 4:30 p.m. workshop session precedes the meeting.
