Bills look different but must be paid

City changes water bills

Cleburne residents will soon notice a change in their water bill. The new payment notices look slightly different and are larger in size.

“We wanted to increase productivity in our office to help facilitate efficiency,” said Tonya Vaughan, Cleburne utility billing office manager. “So we got a check reader system to print the notices, which meant we had to reformat the [bill’s] size.”

The information remains the same as on previous bills, Vaughan said, just with some of the information relocated on the statement.

“The only major difference, besides the size, is that the service address [the address where the water service actually goes] will now be on both sides of the bill, the part you keep and the part you send in, which is better for record keeping,” said Greg Wilmore, Cleburne finance director.

This won’t affect most residents, Wilmore said, as service addresses only come into play when a customer owns a property such as a rent house or business, lives elsewhere and has the water bill mailed to his or her primary residence.

“The next billing cycle goes out Monday,” Wilmore said. “We just wanted to give people a heads up and let them know the new bills will look a little different. We didn’t want them to be surprised by the change or wonder what they were.”

Customers who pay their water bill by direct payment, such a a credit card or bank debit, will not be affected by the new billing format, Wilmore said.
