An employee at a Cleburne car wash was injured Friday after being pinned between two cars.
It was Austin Whitney’s first day of work at the Lone Star Car Wash & Fast Lube on North Main Street.
Another employee accidentally pushed the gas pedal instead of the brake on the truck he was moving, slamming into two other vehicles and pinning Whitney between them.
The vehicles were in a line waiting to be cleaned.
“The employee in the grey Ford truck had one foot on the gas and one foot on the brake, and accidentally pressed the gas,” said Cpl. Robert Sigler of the Cleburne Police Department.
“The Ford then plowed into the black Mazda, which hit this GMC Yukon, trapping the victim between the Mazda and GMC and snapping his leg immediately,” Sigler said. “He’s gonna live, but he’s gonna remember this. He’s got some broken bones for sure.”
Emergency personnel stabilized Whitney’s shattered leg before loading him on a stretcher and taking him away an ambulance. A CareFlite helicopter was at the scene but wasn’t needed.
No one else was injured in the accident.
“It just happened so fast,” said employee Laurie Marbut, who didn’t see the accident. “And this is his first day. He’s a brand new guy. He just started here.”
Sigler said Whitney was vacuuming and standing near the back hatch of the GMC when the accident occurred.
The name of the employee who caused the accident was not released.
