Hill College honors Cleburne High students

Several Cleburne High School students have been recognized for their achievements as participants in the Hill College transition program, a job training partnership developed by Hill’s Cleburne campus and Cleburne High School.

Nathan Armstrong, Denver Burt, Kendall Hartwright, Amanda Heard, Sharetha Howard, Charity Knight, Kevin Manning, Jerry Mitchell and Rachel Morales were honored at a reception held in the student center of the Cleburne campus.

“This program has been a great success,” said Amy Butcher, Hill College continuing education training coordinator. “We’ve immensely enjoyed teaching the kids. We are already looking forward to next year.”

The transition partnership is designed as a two-year program, said Cleburne High School life skills teacher Melanie Doty.

“The transition program strives to provide job-related training and skills to our students, which are taught by Hill College instructors at the Cleburne campus,” Doty said. “They have had classes in commercial housekeeping, landscaping, childcare, office skills, auto detailing and job search skills. A new set of classes has already been developed for the fall semester.

“This has been a great experience for our students. While they are at Hill they have lunch with the other college students. In some of the classes, Hill students have assisted our high school students. Our goal is to provide our students with learning opportunities that will eventually lead to employment opportunities. The classes expose students to a variety of jobs available to them, giving them the opportunity to see what interests them most and where they have the greatest aptitude.

“It’s been a really awesome program. Our graduates, as well as those who will be returning, have enjoyed the year.”
