Ward donates funds to Hill JC
Special to the Times-Review
Bobby Ward, a 20-year military veteran, has donated $200,000 to Hill College for a scholarship fund in memory of his late wife, Doris Irene Ward, an elementary teacher in Joshua for 20 years.
Intended for students in need of financial aid, the Doris Irene Ward Scholarship will provide funding for a number of Joshua and Cleburne High School graduates who wish to attend Hill College.
Beginning in the fall of 2009, students who can maintain a 2.75 to 3.0 grade point average for two years will be eligible for the scholarship.
“This fund is something that Doris really wanted,” Ward said. “Everyone in the family agrees that this is just the thing to remember her by.”
Having received a scholarship for college herself, Doris Ward hoped to one day help others needing financial aid for education.
She loved children with all her heart, Bobby Ward said, and she made a lifelong impact on their lives.
“Thanks to the generosity of Bobby Ward, students at Hill College who are in need of financial aid with good academic standing are able to afford an education,” said Dr. Sheryl Kappus, president of Hill College, “This scholarship is a wonderful tribute to Mrs. Doris Irene Ward.”
