Cleburne Golf Links held its men’s city championship over the weekend, and John Reeves took home title of city champion by one stroke over Luke Eaton and Kyle McGee.
“The city championship went real well,” Cleburne Golf Links Pro Johnny Pilcher said. “We had a real good match. The whole tournament turned out real well. The weather was good and everything went real well.”
Eaton had a lead heading into the final round after shooting a 69 in the first round. Pilcher said the championship came down to the final hole where Reeves took advantage of a missed putt by Eaton.
Reeves, 51, won with a final score of 218 while Eaton and McGee each shot a 219. Reeves shot a 71 in the first round, 72 in the second and 75 in the final.
Eaton had rounds of 69, 74 and 76 while McGee shot 71, 76 and 72.
In all, there were five players under par and 11 participants out of 31 advanced to the championship bracket.
Ages of players in participation ranged from 17 years old to 65.
In the first flight, Terry Holder took home first place with a score of 221 and a final round of 71 while Pat Culpepper came in second place with a score of 223 and final round of 73.
In the second flight, Danny Watson won first place with a score of 231 and Jack Whitt was second as he shot 234 for the tournament.
The fifth annual Cleburne Firefighters Association Charity Golf Tournament will be held Saturday. The event is held to help raise money for the H.O.P.E. Clinic.
