Godley, Keene lead 15-2A team

All four Johnson County teams in District 15-2A were represented on the all-district team which was announced recently.

Godley head coach Jonathan Normand was named the district’s coach of the year after he led the Wildcats a round further in the playoffs than last season.

Godley finished the year with a 24-7 record, an unblemished 14-0 record in District 15-2A play along with the school’s second consecutive district championship and a berth in the regional semifinals.

Godley lost in the semifinals to Brock, 48-45.

The loss snapped Godley’s 17-game win streak.

Godley seniors Ty Young and Riley Good were named the co-most valuable players in the district and Landry Martinez shared defensive player of the year honors with Dallas Life senior Robert Bailey.

Junior Jacob Ramirez was named the district’s 6th man of the year.

Keene wrapped up the remaining two superlative awards with senior Fred Kurn getting the nod for 15-2A’s offensive player of the year.

The Charger’s explosive freshman guard Manuel Gonzales was named the district’s newcomer of the year.

Keene finished in second place in District 15-2A with a 12-2 record and advanced to the area round of the playoffs where it lost to Edgewood, 59-49.

Keene defeated Hico, 46-30, in the bidistrict round.

The first-team selections included Maypearl senior Brett Salter, Dallas Life junior Kevin Ross, Palmer junior Zach Hobbs, Grandview junior Derek Jarrell, Dallas Life senior John Morrison, Godley senior Dylan Benge and Keene senior Ryan Baze.

The second-team included Maypearl senior Parker Juarez, Grandview junior Daniel Spencer, Godley senior Jake Williams, Rio Vista senior Tanner Bucher, Maypeal senior Josh Grzybowski, Dallas Life junior Teverick Boyd, North Hills junior Bahir Chamseddin, Godley sophomore Kolby Brown, Dallas Life senior Renell Thompson, Palmer senior Cameron Robinson and Keene senior Cody Shelfer.

    Four of Johnson County’s eight football teams qualified for the postseason in 2011 with Alvarado making it all the way to the Class 3A Division I state championship game at Cowboys Stadium against Tyler Chapel Hill.

    The first-team offense included Alvarado quarterback Kenny West and Burleson quarterback Barrett Cain.

    The second-team offense was led by Cleburne’s Quade Coward and Godley’s Rhett Brawner as the second-team quarterbacks.
