Special to the Times-Review
The Johnson County Chapter of Texas Exes has awarded its annual scholarship to Allison Brown, valedictorian of the Godley High School Class of 2009.
Brown is the daughter of Todd and Connie Brown of Godley.
She will begin undergraduate work in nursing at the University of Texas at Austin in the fall and hopes to earn a master’s degree in the field.
In addition to graduating first in her class Brown was National Honor Society president, varsity volleyball captain, varsity cheerleading captain and a dance team lieutenant.
She also was a member of the Principal’s Advisory Committee and participated in varsity track.
“I have dreamed of attending the University of Texas at Austin ever since I can imagine. While everyone was stressing over where to attend school, I had already sent in my application and been accepted,” she said.
She is interested in rushing for a sorority, cheering and dancing “especially for my Texas Longhorns,” playing recreational volleyball and joining Texas Cru, a nondenominational Christian organization affiliated with Campus Crusade for Christ.
“We are so proud to award our scholarship to Allison because we know she not only will represent our chapter well academically but also that she has the Longhorn spirit we love,” said Kim Amis, scholarship chairman for the local Texas Exes chapter. “Fortunately, we were able to double our scholarship amount this year and are giving her $2,000. We also are giving $200 book awards to two other applicants, Courtney Luster of Grandview and Chase Burt of Cleburne.”
The three scholarship recipients and all other incoming UT freshmen from Johnson County will be honored with a pool-side Longhorn Send-Off Party at 6:30 p.m. June 27 at 1000 Kristi Court in Cleburne, the home of former UT football captain Fred Sarchet and his wife, Susie.
Sarchet is the chapter president.
“Families of the honorees, all official Texas Exes members, anyone who graduated from UT or attended classes there or who considers himself a ‘friend’ of The University is invited to attend,” said Amis.
For information call Amis at 817-723-5652.
