Godley senior LB Riley Davis commits to Angelo State University

Fellow Wildcat Troy Hunt will walk on at Louisiana Tech

Riley Davis made official his commitment to play football at Angelo State University on Friday afternoon at Godley High School.

The standout senior running back and defensive back said he had a choice between several smaller schools, Abilene Christian University and Angelo State as his choices.

He finished with more than 1,200 rushing yards in his senior season with Godley and was a first-team all-district selection on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball.

Davis said he appreciated the member of the Eastland coaching staff who recommended him to the Angelo State coaching staff. Eastland handed Godley its only regular season loss, 30-28.

Davis scored three touchdowns in that game.

“I thought it was really great of him to do that,” he said. “It got people talking about me, I guess, and it was really nice for him to mention me to another coach.”

Davis said he’s ready for the challenges which lie ahead at Angelo State. He said he was recruited as an outside linebacker.

“Defense wasn’t really my first priority this year, but I’m looking forward to getting in there and making some tackles and some plays. I want to see what I can do.

“I’m excited about getting to play again and be on a team. I’m ready to get working out and I’m excited to keep winning.”

Davis had 16 rushing touchdowns and 12 receiving touchdowns.

In other Godley football news, Davis’ teammate, senior kicker Troy Hunt, said he plans to walk on at Louisiana Tech University.

Hunt is a three-year lettermen for the Wildcats and has made 213 extra points in his career which ranks third all time in the history of Texas high school football. He trails just Cade Foster of Southlake Carrol and Jarrod Martin of Celina in the standings. Hunt is ranked third in his class and was a member of the academic all-state football team. He plans to study mechanical engineering.

“I’m ready to go down there and try to use the skill that I have to show what I can do,” Hunt said. “I think it fit me the best and has the small town type of feeling. I feel I can compete for the spot.”
