Girl Power

Junior kicker Evans brings diversity to Godley football

There’s something different about Godley’s varsity roster this season: it features a girl as the team’s kicker.

Junior Rachael Evans is Godley’s go-to girl this year for field goals and extra points after an extensive background in soccer throughout her life.

“I want to be an inspiration to other girls,” she said. “People have always said that girls can’t play football, but we can play football. If you have the right mindset and you really want to chase your dreams, then you can do it.”

Evans has played soccer since age 4 and is a part of Sparta FC in Lake Highlands, but had no experience in football.

I sat in the conference room at Long Family Dental to ask questions. I saw high tech equipment, on-site facilities to create crowns, implants, dentures, veneers. As I studied faces across the table, I sensed something unknown in their work environment. Something there was different.
