Horse-judging teams place high in state competition

The Johnson County 4-H senior horse-judging teams recently placed second and third at the state horse-judging contest in College Station.

The team of Holly Dane, Melanie McCoy, Madison Simmons and Thomas Huff were second overall and place second in performance and first in reasons.

Huff was sixth high in the individual division. The team qualified to represent Texas at the world championships in October in Ohio.

The team of Cash Bridges, Keegan McCardy, Hana Huff and Keely McCardy placed third, which qualified them to represent Texas at the Denver National Livestock Show in January in Denver, Colo.

As a team, they placed second in halter, fifith in performance and third in reasons. Bridges was third high individual.

    Loni Woolley, a senior from Grandview, was a member of the Texas Tech University Livestock Judging Team that was crowned national champions recently at the 2011 North American International Livestock Exposition in Louisville, Ky. The team won the contest by a 31-point margin, posting a total team score of 4,677 points.
