Keene, Godley bonds pass

Area school board races decided

Two bond elections and several school board races were decided in Saturday’s elections for districts in the area.

Keene

Keene ISD’s $15 million bond package passed 96 votes to 95.

Superintendent Kevin Sellers said Saturday night he was relieved the vote passed, and he is looking forward to the future.

The bond package will address overcrowding and alleviate student and traffic congestion at the district’s schools. Projects include additions to each campus facility and demolishing the district’s “white building” which formerly served as Keene Intermediate School.

Godley

Godley ISD’s $27.78 bond election passed 258 voters to 101. The package focuses on renovations and upgrades at all campuses, particularly at the decades-old Godley Intermediate School, where a new wing is now planned.

Alvarado

Alvarado ISD’s only contest saw Cris Ratliff defeating her three opponents to take the board’s Place 5 seat.

Ratliff took 70 votes compared with Dana Walraven’s 47, William R. Edwards III’s six and Gene Earl Russell’s three.

Board President Linda Neeley, who ran unopposed, took 90 votes.

Grandview

Incumbents Adam Hughes and Keith Miller earned enough votes to retain their seats Saturday, defeating lone challenger Carolyn Neff.

Hughes garnered 95 votes, Miller took 80 and Neff took 30.

The election was at-large.

Rio Vista

In Rio Vista’s at-large race for three available seats, incumbents David Brunson, W.E. “Butch” Hackler and newcomer Steve Clinkscales came out ahead of Chad Stephens, Rhonda Johnston and Matt Wylie.

Brunson had 311 votes, Hackler had 199, Clinkscales had 160, Stephens had 137, Johnston had 132 and Wylie had 113.
