Few area school races up for grabs
School trustee incumbents face challengers in three Johnson County communities in elections from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday. In a trio of other board races, incumbents face nothing at all.
A total of five candidates are running for three at-large spots at in Grandview. Incumbents Jon Taggart and Kim Akers are opposed by Derik Moore, Carolyn Neff and Dr. Clint Calvert. Voting is at city hall at 304 E. Criner.
Three candidates are running for two at-large spots in Rio Vista. Incumbent Keith Hall is challenged by Jim Bonham and Byron Cobb. Voting is in the civic center at 201 S. Highway 174.
In Burleson three candidates — Trey Schmoker, Mrs. Pat Morelock Worrell and Derek Stanley — are facing off in Place 7 at Burleson. Incumbent Staci J. Eisner is unopposed in Place 5, and incumbent Beverly Volkman Powell is unopposed in Place 6. Voting is at city hall at 141 W. Renfro.
In Joshua, Place 7 is up for grabs but only between a pair of write-in candidates, Sherry Ball and Brant Rose. That race is to fill a one-year unexpired term left by former board president Randy Watson, who resigned his position.
Two Joshua incumbents, Chris Ohlsen in Place 3 and Rob Davis in Place 4, are unopposed.
Voting is in the community room at 907 S. Broadway.
There will be no school election in Godley, where incumbents Dennis McFarlin and Terrie Goodloe and newcomer Matt McKittrick filed for the three at-large spots.
There will be no election at Alvarado, where incumbents Tom Head and Michael Percifield filed for re-election.
