Joshua offers Keene’s Sellers administrative post

Keene ISD Superintendent Kevin Sellers confirmed Tuesday morning he has been offered the post of assistant superintendent at Joshua ISD.

A three-year superintendent, Sellers was principal for six years at Keene High and before that an assistant principal and teacher in Cleburne ISD.

Keene school trustees will hold a special called meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday to consider several construction bids. They are expected to consider Sellers’ contract in closed session the same night. The trustees will have to release Sellers from his Keene contract before he can sign a contract at Joshua.

“At this point, Joshua has extended me a contract. I have not signed the contract,” Sellers said. “I have contacted my [Keene] board officers and will be discussing everything in more detail with the board Thursday night.”

Keene extended Sellers’ three-year contract in January.

“Keene is a great place,” he said. “I have no issues with Keene ISD. It’s a great staff with a great bunch of teachers and students.”

Sellers’ “hiring” was approved at a regular scheduled meeting of the Joshua trustees Monday night.

“When he can be released from his contract at Keene depends on his board,” Superintendent Ray Dane said. “We may not get him until January. We’re going to be flexible about his start date. I’ve had my eye on Mr. Sellers for two or three years. I’ve known him for 10 or 11 years.”

Dane said Sellers would become part of a restructured central office at Joshua.

“We’re going to move Mr. [John] Grigsby [assistant superintendent] into a position that focuses on district support services, public relations and community relations,” Dane said. “Mr. Sellers will be administrative and financial. He can do a lot of things.”
