Coleman Elementary went into lockdown procedures for close to 45 minutes Monday afternoon as police searched the campus for the driver allegedly involved in a hit and run accident near the school, according to a press release from CISD Spokeswoman Lisa Magers.
A man involved in the hit-and-run accident in that area was seen running toward the school, CPD Sgt. Amy Knoll said.
It is not known if the man actually entered the school or the school grounds, Knoll said. Officials locked the school down as a safety precaution, she said.
The driver was not found following a 30-minute search, and the campus was declared clear shortly before 3 p.m.
At the request of police at the scene, Coleman began with hard lockdown procedures, which were soon downgraded to the perimeter level, with entrances and exits from classrooms and the campus closely monitored.
