One Cleburne High School student has been disciplined in connection with an alleged incident after a recent varsity football game between Cleburne and Waxahachie at Yellow Jacket Stadium.
In an e-mail communication to Cleburne ISD officials, a copy of which was sent to the Times-Review, a woman identifying herself as “Waxahachie parent” Paige Gordon said metal objects were thrown at Waxahachie band members by Cleburne students after the game.
“In 1976, I was a seventh grade student manager of the girls volleyball team from Waxahachie Junior High,” she wrote. “Following the game that fall night, our bus was rocked with REAL rocks flying thru the windows and door by students of Cleburne ISD. Many of the girls, including myself, were hit in the face and head as we tried to duck under seats.
“Imagine my disbelief when this past Friday night, I was once again, as a member of the band group from Waxahachie, victim of students throwing metal objects at us as we tried to exit the field. I could not believe that in 33 years, nothing had changed in Cleburne.
“What is even worse, is that the guilty group appeared to be seniors. Just exactly what do you teach the children about being part of society in Cleburne? Obviously not to welcome guests or how to get along with others in society.”
An official response from Cleburne ISD stated, “This e-mail from a Waxahachie parent was received in our Web site’s administration mail, which is monitored by our Technology Department. It was forwarded to the high school administration. When informed of the incident at last Friday’s ball game, our high school administrators conducted an investigation and one student was issued discipline.”
No complaint was filed at Cleburne Police Department about the incident, Cleburne Police officials said. Uniformed police were present at the game on the Cleburne and Waxahachie sides.
