CISD's Chavez hired at Rio Vista
Paul Chavez, an Irving Elementary School PE teacher for 15 years, has been hired as varsity assistant coach in football, baseball and basketball at Rio Vista High School.
Chavez was a standout baseball and football player at Cleburne High in the mid 1980s. He found his niche at Irving school, he said, because of his passion for little kids.
"The hardest part of this is leaving the kids here," he said. "I love them like they're mine. I wanted to be the father figure for those who didn't have one. I wish I'd had the opportunity to tell them how much I'll miss them."
Chavez taught at Irving for three years and Cooke Elementary for one before returning to Irving. He will also be teaching at the elementary level at Rio Vista.
