Buckingham to take position in administration

C.C. Cooke Elementary School Principal Gary Buckingham has been named to a new position as the district’s executive director for maintenance and operations.

“I am certain that Mr. Buckingham’s experiences both professionally and personally have prepared him well for this role in the district,” said Superintendent Dr. Ronny Beard in an e-mail to the district’s staff announcing the appointment.

Beard met with the Cooke faculty Wednesday to begin the selection process for a new principal for the campus where Buckingham has served since 2007.

His appointment to CISD Central Administration will fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Mike Bailey, assistant superintendent for district operations.

Buckingham came to Cleburne ISD in 1996 to serve as principal of Gerard Elementary. He was later selected to serve as the campus leader of Jo and George Marti Elementary upon its opening in 2003.

In the spring of 2007 he was tapped to serve as principal of C.C. Cooke Elementary after its conversion from the district’s kindergarten center to a K-5 elementary campus.

His 33 years in public education began in 1976 as a classroom teacher with Granbury ISD. He moved to Joshua ISD in 1980 and in 1984 received his first administrative position as an assistant-principal of Joshua Middle School.

The following year he was named principal of Joshua Intermediate School. Buckingham has also served as a campus principal with the Groesbeck and Glen Rose school districts.

Buckingham’s administrative experiences at the district level include superintendent positions with Loraine ISD from 1992-94 and Eden ISD from 1994-96.

As the executive director for maintenance and operations, his responsibilities will include overseeing the food services, transportation and maintenance departments, district facilities and the coordination of projects relating to facilities and construction.
