Man critical after crash into church

Eighty-year-old involved in Dec. 3 wreck dies

A single-vehicle accident Tuesday morning resulted in injuries to all three occupants of the car. One man sustained life-threatening injuries and remains in critical condition, Sgt. Amy Knoll said.

The accident occurred about 12:39 a.m. near the intersection of West Henderson and Field streets. The dash camera of a Cleburne police car caught the accident on video.

The driver of a Toyota Camry lost control of her vehicle while traveling eastbound in the 700 block of West Henderson Street. The Camry swerved to the right, struck a curb then abruptly swerved back to the left, crossed all lanes of traffic, struck the southeast corner of Field Street Baptist Church, bounced off the wall and came to a stop.

The front-seat passenger, Ismael Mendoza, 18, of Keene suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to John Peter Smith Hospital by CareFlite helicopter.

The driver, Julie Williams, 23, of Bosque County, suffered what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries as did the back-seat passenger, Jacob Rice, 17, of Cleburne, Knoll said. Both were transported to JPS, Williams by helicopter, Rice by ground ambulance, she said. Williams was treated and released from the hospital, Knoll said Wednesday morning. Rice remains hospitalized, she said.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation, Knoll said.

No charges filed in accident related to death

An 80-year-old Cleburne man involved in a Dec. 3 wreck passed away Tuesday night at a Fort Worth hospital, Cleburne Police Department Sgt. Amy Knoll said.

A CareFlite helicopter transported Carl McDonald to John Peter Smith Hospital after a Ford pickup struck his Toyota in the 300 block of Texas 174.

The accident, which occurred about 2:50 p.m., closed traffic in both directions for more than five hours.

The Ford, traveling northbound, apparently crossed all lanes of traffic and struck McDonald’s southbound Toyota head on.

The driver of the Ford, Michael Hattaway, 29, of Cleburne, was transported to Harris Methodist Fort Worth Hospital where he was treated and released.

Knoll said Wednesday that investigations into the cause of the accident remain ongoing. No charges connected to the accident have been filed at this time, she said.
