Council to vote on radios for firefighters

Cleburne City Council members will vote on approval of the purchase of portable and mobile radios on Tuesday.

The radios will be distributed throughout the county to establish better communication lines between all county fire department, and the Johnson County Emergency Management Service.

The cost of the radios totals $177,942.75, which will be funded through the North Central Texas Council of Governments through a Homeland Security grant program.

Council members will also address designating a nominee for the Regional Emergency Preparedness Planning Council as requested by NCTCOG.

NCTCOG is seeking nominations from Cleburne’s jurisdiction to fill a vacancy left by County Commissioner Don Beeson, who has served the allotted number of terms on the EPPC board.

The NCTCOG executive board will review all nominations and select members at their Jan. 28 meeting.

Council members will also vote on whether to approve a permit request from Chesapeake Energy to drill a gas well near West Henderson and Hyde Park streets, west of the West Meadow addition.

All city conditions for installing the well have been met, said David Esquivel, director of public works, except the 600 feet setback rule, which affects four area property owners.

Chesapeake is requesting the council to grant waivers on those four properties.

The owner of a business, Downtown Motors, is requesting a variance to allow an LED sign on his property on 421 W. Henderson St.

The sign would be within 500 feet of another LED sign, which is not allowed under city ordinances unless council members grant a variance.

The Cleburne City Council meets at 7 p.m. in Cleburne City Hall on 10 N. Robinson St. A 6:30 p.m. workshop precedes the meeting.
